We are seeking literature LOVERS who want to join a strong community of witchy creatives and help Pussy Magic publish the best and most aligned work. This person must be reliable, trustworthy, and able to commit to their own writing as well as fostering the community they are a part of. You’re someone who’s creative, takes initiative, and has awesome ideas. You’re organized and efficient. You have a positive attitude, are flexible and open-minded, align with Pussy Magic’s mission, and value safe spaces for authentic self-expression. You communicate strongly, receive feedback well, and are adaptable. You do not start or engage in drama. You are a genuine and kind person who wants to contribute to the overall message, impact, and success of Pussy Magic.

It is not necessary that you have previous experience. If you were a kick-ass English student or straight up just love love love to read and are a strong writer and/or editor and your interests align with Pussy Magic, you are eligible!

This position reports directly to the Editorial Assistant.

COMMITMENT:

  • Stay up-to-date weekly with incoming submissions. Voting is on a rolling basis and we don’t always have submissions to go through weekly, but it is your obligation to check Slack daily and read/vote weekly as you can so that we can send prompt responses to submitters. Depending on length of subs and how fast you read, this could take 2-5 hours a week.

  • Special seasonal issues will increase time potentially up to 10 hours per week. These can happen 1-3 times a year.

  • Stay in touch with the coven daily on Slack - we want people who are engaged, engaging, and involved

    • We are open to you doing more if you have other skill-sets you’d like to contribute to your work or PM, please share with us if you’re interested

WHAT YOU HAVE/ARE:

  • A positive attitude

  • Writing/editing experience (we are open to varying ranges of experience)

  • Strong and open communication skills

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Pussy Magic’s mission and publishing goals, who our audience is, who else we are trying to reach

  • A keen eye and strong discernment of what kind of writing belongs with Pussy Magic and what doesn’t

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Flexibility and accountability

  • Respect and empathy for other people’s experiences

  • Confidentiality for the artists

  • The love to read a variety of works

  • The desire to contribute to and be a part of a safe space community

  • You are ideally not currently volunteering for another magazine, but we are open to discuss

TIME COMMITMENT:

  • Time varies based on the amount of submissions we’ve received in a specific time and how long those pieces are. It should not be more than 5 hours per week.

  • Monthly meetings with the coven

  • Any writing/editing time that comes up with coven workshops if you choose to participate

  • Sporadic weekly communication with the rest of the coven via Slack

    • In a way, it’s up to you! We are seeking writers who want to also be involved on a community-level as well, not only to build their portfolio. Both is ideal for both of us!

HOW TO APPLY:

  • Email brief cover letter, resume/CV, and writing portfolio/websites/any other relevant materials to SRJ [AT] PUSSYMAGICHEALS.COM. You can address these materials to the editors (if you don’t know who those are, check out our coven page!) and make sure you put the position title in the subject line.

    • If you have previous reading experience, feel free to send some links to works you’ve published by others.

    • If you have a preference for what kind of materials you enjoy reading you are welcome to state them. You can see what kind of genres we accept on our submission page. Please note that at this time, all readers read all genres, but that is subject to change based on who joins us.

  • Any applications missing materials, a greeting, or message in the e-mail will not be considered.
